Who We Are

Doras Bui is a community resource centre for one parent families located on the north east side of Dublin City, Ireland. We work together with local community groups and statutory agencies to build a strong and vibrant community where people of all ages feel safe and secure and enjoy a good quality of life.

Our work with one parent-families encourages social and economic independence and personal empowerment. We are committed to promoting equality and diversity and we are proud of our inclusive and supportive organisational culture and environment.  We aim to ensure that everyone who attends our centre feels they are valued and respected alike.

Almost all members of our Board of Management and staff are local people who are either currently parenting alone or may have lived in a one-parent family. This experience is invaluable in ensuring that the services we provide continue to be delivered in a respectful, confidential and professional manner.

The concept of the family in the Irish Constitution is one based on marriage and as a result one parent families along with other family types are not accorded equal respect and recognition with families based on marriage. For that reason, we work for the recognition of family diversity, the promotion of societal understanding of the needs of one parent families and for change in social and economic policies that negatively affect them.

We are one of the founding members of OPEN, the national network of local lone parent groups.
